Cirque du Soleil
Founded in 1984 in Quebec., Cirque du Soleil is world-renowned for its completely unique brand of theatrical arts presentations. Explaining Cirque du Soleil to someone who has never seen it is almost impossible. First of all, it’s not a traditional circus as the name may imply. Cirque du Soleil is different from traditional circuses because Cirque does not use animals in its shows. The acrobats are masterfully skilled, the entire show is themed, right down to elaborate costumes, and, the most important aspect of all is that its music is unique.
Cirque du Soleil is world-renowned for its distinct brand of theatrical entertainment. It is made up of an immersive combination of circus, theatrical, and street performances that combine modern dance, staging, humor and acrobatic stunts. Cirque du Soleil is known for amazing visuals, stunts, and choreography that will take its audience on a spectacular, mysterious trip through lands and times never embarked upon before.
You will find very few performances that involve so much amazing creativity, pure skill and uncanny timing as those by Cirque du Soleil’s troupe of street performers and circus acts. The scenery and costumes are always extravagant and surreal. Their props are always basic, and they do so much with so little. Anyone who has been lucky enough to see a performance of Cirque knows of the breathtaking skill and artistry displayed by all the highly talented performers in Cirque. The sheer precision with which the troupe of Cirque De Soleil performs is utterly breathtaking and worthy of the high esteem with which the group is associated.
Currently, there are six different Cirque du Soleil shows appearing in Las Vegas, and all are drawing sell-out crowds. If you expect to see any of the Cirque du Soleil performances on your next Las Vegas NV vacation, then plan on booking your tickets well in advance. Here are some video samples of each show:
“Mystere” at Treasure Island
Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystere” is an astounding theatrical production and a tale of two babies who explore a world filled with strange creatures and brilliant colors, encountering acrobats, dancers, musicians, and a hopelessly misguided clown along the way. “Mystere” distinguishes itself from other Cirque du Soleil productions by taking staggering performances and astonishing technical complexity and adding a vibrantly colorful and animalistic spin. The balancing act in “Mystere” is truly an unbelievable feat. “Mystere”, playing inside the 1,600 seat theatre at Treasure Island, is one of the best productions in Las Vegas.
“O” at Bellagio
With an international cast performing in, on and above water, Cirque du Soleil’s “O” tells the tale of theatre through the ages and frees us to lose ourselves in a world without limits. Featuring acrobatics and beautiful synchronized swimming, “O” is a surrealistic dream that promises to astonish you with its fusion of circus acts, modern theatrical effects, live music, dance and most of all water. Tickets are very pricey, but some consider “O” as the crown jewel of all Cirque du Soleil shows.
“KA” at MGM Grand
Cirque du Soleil’s “KA” is a beautiful acrobatic show, and is another of the troupe’s forays into their mysterious visual world. While remaining firmly rooted in Cirque du Soleil musical tradition, the show’s sountrack features a symphonic orchestra of 57 musicians and a choir of over 40 singers; so the score of “KA” has a grander, fuller sound. Because there is a storyline, one is able to watch just about everything going on the stage, unlike other Cirque shows where your attention is split because there is sometimes too much happening at one time. Different than other cirque shows but delightful and highly entertaining.
“Zumanity” at New York New York
Created by Dominic Champagne, “Zumanity” is a departure from the standard Cirque format. “Zumanity” is a show for lovers, would-be lovers, and anyone whose imagination has ever been sparked by the idea of love. “Zumanity” was designed for guests 18 and older and is a seductive twist on reality, making the provocative playful and the forbidden electrifying. It is the first R-rated, cabaret-style production from Cirque du Soleil and has been called “Naughty, Sexy, Thrilling, Daring” by Time magazine.
“Love” at The Mirage
In their newest production called “Love”, Cirque du Soleil pays homage to one of the most beloved rock groups of all time, The Beatles. “Love” was born out of the friendship of The Beatles’ George Harrison and Cirque du Soliel founder Guy Laliberte. There are 25 full songs in “Love”, with more than 100 other fragments, during the performance in a specially built theater at the Mirage hotel. Cirque du Soleil’s “Love” is a musical and performance extravaganza that could only happen in Las Vegas.
“Believe” at The Luxor
The Luxor is hosting yet another Cirque Du Soleil production, with none other than Mr. Mind Freak himself, magic superstar Criss Angel. This collaboration has the combined talents to produce a show that would be impossible for future Cique du Soleil shows to top. Being a life-long magic fan and ex-magician, I can’t wait to see this one.
Well, there you have it. All the Cirque du Soleil shows that are appearing in Las Vegas…all wrapped up in a bundle for you. We hope this has helped you to choose one that is right for you to see on your next Las Vegas NV Vacation. Which ever one you choose, we promise it to be an experience you won’t soon forget.
